Meet your instructor
Hi, I'm Ted.
Why I made this cohort
My friends at nonprofits are frustrated by their software. They're wearing too many hats—donor relationships, event management, fundraising, marketing, volunteering… it's a LOT.
I've spent the last 10 years helping nonprofits use software to lead more productive organizations and do more good with less effort. After learning a few foundational principles that apply to all tech, nonprofits can get more from their software and lead more effective organizations.
What you'll learn
By the end of this cohort you'll feel confident navigating the software landscape and quickly find tools that make you better at your job. We'll explore:
- Building blocks at the heart of all software
- Frameworks for becoming the boss of your software
- How to ask better questions of your data
- Pitfalls to avoid when buying software
- How to introduce new software to your team (without them hating you)
Other benefits
- Work alongside other nonprofit leaders who are in the same boat
- Get hands-on teaching and coaching from a software expert
- Discover new approaches to solving problems that save you time
Cohort overview
Session 1 · June 4
Software Problems All Nonprofits Face
I'll provide a brief history of software and how the landscape has changed over the last few decades—and why that affects our challenges today. We'll also discuss why nonprofits are so frustrated and five ways we can respond. Last, we'll review the results of the software inventory we completed before this session.
Session 2 · June 11
Use Data to Show Your Impact to Funders
Nonprofit funders want more than a great story. They want the data to back it up, and software is where we'll find a lot of that data. This session will examine challenges we face around measuring our impact, questions to ask before collecting information, and some simple ways to show your work through visualization reporting.
Session 3 · June 18
Make All the Different Tools Work Together
We talked about how nonprofits are drowning in software. Now, we're going to talk about how to make all those tools talk to each other. In this session, I'll demonstrate how to build a framework called a "data model" that we can use to connect our software to automate tedious tasks and integrate fragmented tools.
Session 4 · June 25
Create Your Process, and Then Add Software
Now that we know what data we need and how to work with our tech stack, let's dive into mapping out software processes. In this session, we'll walk through the journey customers and donors take as they navigate your organization. Next, we'll overlay the software we use to facilitate that journey. Finally, we'll identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.
Session 5 · July 2
Build a Roadmap for Change That Your Team Won't Hate
We've identified pain points, created processes, and made some rules… Ready to implement some tech changes? This session will explore how to improve our software and tech stacks by making trade-offs, avoiding traps, and managing change. We'll establish a roadmap of the change we want to see in our software and learn how to manage expectations along the way.
Bonus
Keep the Momentum Going
We're not done yet! After these sessions, this cohort will hold group coaching sessions once a month for six months to keep the momentum going and hold each other accountable. Cohort members will have the chance to share their work, get feedback from an expert (me!) and grow with their peers.

Testimonials
What my new friends are saying
Lots of love for the last cohort. Join us for Spring 2026!
"Ted will change the way you think about technology and the data you collect. He'll find the holes in your processes that might seem overwhelming and break them into bite-size tasks that are way easier to digest. He'll make you a better storyteller and employee in 7.5 hours!"
"The course was extremely helpful for us at the Kansas Aviation Museum. We fit the 'example' organization nearly to a tee, and it really made me realize how many things we are juggling. It also showed our organization the difference an experienced sherpa like Ted can make for the future."
"I want to add that I left this cohort feeling moved to ACTION instead of just accepting that this is the way things are when it comes to our tech stack. Thank you!"
"Great cohort Ted! I really enjoyed the topics you covered and left feeling empowered and ready to tackle our tech stack."
"Not only are you clearly intelligent and thoughtful, but you're a great communicator! I enjoy listening to whatever you're talking about!"
"Ted, you're the smartest guy I know!! We left feeling grateful and prepared to tackle it all."
"This was so informative, and you kept it entertaining, funny, and real. It was a great time. Thank you for the lessons and for the experience!"
